Annual Meeting 2024 of Ecological Society of Yunnan held in Dali

The Annual Meeting 2024 of the Ecological Society of Yunnan (ESY) and its 7th Youth Science and Technology Forum were held in Dali from November 1-3.

With the theme of “Biodiversity and sustainable development”, it brought together over 270 representatives from 19 universities, research institutions and nature reserve management bureaus.

Prof. Li Bo, vice chairman of ESY and a professor with Yunnan University, presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. Xing Yaowu, vice director of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), and vice president He Zhikui of Dali University delivered opening speeches respectively.

The keynote speakers were Profs. Li Yuan, Deng Tao, Yang Jie, Liao Jinbao, and Cao Min. Their presentations were as following:  A 30-year review of UV radiation ecology research; Tree species coexistence: insight from metabolomics and phytochemical diversity;  Plant diversity patterns and conservation on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau;  Complex responses of biodiversity to multiple environmental drivers;  and Hidden misconceptions in species inventories in nature reserves.

The conference included 23 thematic academic reports, 23 poster presentations, and 77 graduate student presentations. The presentations covered such topics as evolutionary ecology, community ecology, pollution ecology, landscape ecology, and global change. They elaborated on cutting-edge ecological issues from different scales.

10 outstanding papers, 35 excellent graduate student presentations, and 7 outstanding poster presentations were selected.

“The annual meeting of ESY has gradually become a desired communication platform for ecological researchers, especially young scholars, for free academic exchanges, enhance communication among all member units and members, promote interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative synergy,” said Prof. Yang Yongping, director of XTBG.
