Prof. Timo Vesala from the University of Helsinki, Finland, led a seven-member team to Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on February 6. Prof. Fan Zexin, deputy director of XTBG, met with the visitors. The two sides introduced their institutional frameworks and key research priorities. Prof. Timo Vesala shared insights and outcomes from the Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) in Europe. XTBG researchers presented recent advances in global change biology and plant ecophysiology. The researchers also visited the rubber plantation flux tower, the man-made rainforest ecological station, and the Bubeng Station of the Xishuangbanna Ecological Station. The two sides agreed to deepen collaboration in carbon sink monitoring, plant ecophysiology, and global change research. They will advance research infrastructure development and promote joint training programs for early-career researchers and graduate students.
