Mr. Sam Inn, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, headed up a delegation to Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on May 29. The visit was for a sino-Cambodian workshop on biodiversity conservation and orchid center cooperation. Prof. Zhang Jiaolin, CPC secretary and deputy director of XTBG, extended a warm welcome to the visitors and gave an overview of XTBG’s progress in the development of the national botanical garden system, biodiversity conservation,scientific research, and international cooperation. Mr. Sam Inn expressed a strong desire to deepen exchanges and cooperation with XTBG, with the goal of establishing a long-term collaborative mechanism. Prof. Fan Zexin, deputy director of XTBG, introduced the research framework and international cooperation activities at XTBG. Dr. Zhu Renbin demonstrated the database management system and biodiversity information platform. Cambodian representatives also reported on the development of the Cambodia Orchid Center and related biodiversity conservation efforts. The two sides held in-depth discussions on orchid resource conservation, joint database development, collaborative field surveys, capacity building, and the application for international research projects. The two sides will have further cooperation in biodiversity conservation and international science and technology cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region.
